Fresh Start

It has been officially a month since my last post and I feel terrible. I have always promised myself that I would never become one of those bloggers that disappeared and then popped back up with a million excuses as to why they stopped writing, but here I am. Honestly I couldn’t find the right balance between my social media presence and the “real world” and decided taking a short break would be the best thing for me to do. I feel confident that it helped, I was able to get out and have some fun and now I feel refreshed and full of new ideas.

Another thing I need to address is the website change I mentioned in a previous post, I am still working on it and am hoping to have it up and running within the next week, thank you for sticking around and being patient with me!

If you have been keeping up with my Instagram ( @madisonpaige342) then you have probably noticed my current obsession with patterned shorts and pants for the summer! My current favorites have been from the Cynthia Rowley line at TjMaxx, the patterns and colors are amazing.

I couldn’t find a place online where you could buy these but I am sure if you check out your nearest TjMaxx you will find some you love!

Lastly I want to talk about a book. It is no secret I lose inspiration and motivation pretty easily and here lately I have been working very hard to change that. I have started looking into internships and ways that I can better help myself succeed. In all this research I stumbled across a pretty popular book at the moment, Leave Your Mark, by Aliza Licht. After reading the amazing reviews I ordered it and cracked it open as soon as it arrived. I am about half way through and to say I am inspired would not do justice, this book is great. If you are looking for some super inspiration tips this is a must read!

Have a great evening loves!

Spa Night

Untitled #3
With this week bringing the stress of finals I was relieved to have an evening where I could just relax and have a spa night, which is obviously my favorite type of night to have. I take spa nights pretty seriously and have a few products I religiously use so I figured I would share them with ya’ll! I may switch some of these out from time to time but for the most part these are my must-haves!
1. GlamGlow is my holy grail face mask company. I know they are pricey but invest the money, they are SO worth it. My favorite one to use is the SuperMud mask, it helps fight breakouts and works wonders for your skin!
2. It’s not a spa night unless you paint your nails, and Essie is always my top pick.
3. What is a relaxing evening without a good book? I just started reading Psychos by Babe Walker and I am hooked already!
4. This is a new addition to my routine but I am so obsessed with it already, my mom got me a Clarisonic for my birthday and holy cow does it clean your face. This is an every night use for me so I could not leave it out!
5. I know, I know, more GlamGlow, I am not kidding when I say this company is amazing! I got a sample for the eye treatment with a purchase of mine a while ago and I love it! It leaves your eyes feeling so refreshed!
6. You can not forget a great smelling lotion and this one from Victoria’s Secret is my favorite. It smells so warm and yummy and leaves you feeling cozy all night.
7. Relaxing evenings start with great smelling candles and for this time of the year I love fruity smelling ones like Pink Sangria from Bath and Body Works. Unfortunately they are not selling this one right now but another favorite of mine is Watermelon Lemonade.
8. I love using sugar scrubs and this one from Soap and Glory is my go to at the moment, not only does it smell great it also leaves your skin feeling awesome.
9. It would just absolutely not be a spa night without some Lush products! I always have to use either a bath bomb or a bath melt, they just make everything so relaxing and it doesn’t hurt that they leave the water pretty colors. One of my favorites is the Rose Queen bomb, it leave little rose petals after is dissolves.
Let me know what some of your favorite products are for spa nights and have a great week loves!

Liebster Award

First I would like to thank Christine at Dimes and Donuts for being so generous and nominating me for the Liebster Award, it meant so much to me when I seen my blog name listed! I have only recently learned what the award is and who it is given to, the description that I have seen the most is that it is an award for bloggers that have less than 200 followers and whom you feel you would like to help support and get that blog more known. There are a few rules for this award and they are:

  1. Thank the blog that nominated you and link back to them.
  2. Nominate up to 11 other bloggers to also receive the award.
  3. Answer 11 questions from the blogger who nominated you.
  4. Tell your readers 11 random facts about yourself.
  5. Give your nominees 11 questions that they must answer on their blog post.

Now for the blogs that I have nominated:

Color Me Kiki, Freckle Me Silly, Beauty Candy Loves, Sprinkles And Champagne, Glimmering Darling, Park Avenue, and Bethani Noelle. I am looking forward to reading all of your posts!

A few days ago I did a post with 15 random facts about myself and so instead of me killing my brain and trying to think of 11 more facts here is the one I just did!

The 11 questions from Christine:

1. What is your favorite building and where is it located?

I would have to say that my favorite building is actually the home my parents live in. Almost every truly great memory from my childhood has taken place in that building. It is where I cried, laughed, learned, and grew up.

2. If you had one day left before the world ended, how would you spend it?

First I would make sure I was around all of my family and friends, I would want to make sure I spent the entire day with them. I would probably eat Chipotle for the last time and cry when I realized it was the last time I would be eating it (I know, obsessed much?) I would spend all of my money on whatever I wanted to do because I obviously won’t be needing it once the world ends. I created a bucket list of 100 things I wanted to do my freshman year of high school, I believe I have only done around 20 of them so I would pull that out and try to cross everything off my list. I honestly would just live that day trying to be as happy and possible doing whatever with the people that I love.

3. Dead or alive, what celebrity would you have dinner with?

This one is tough, there is a lot of celebrities I would love to have the opportunity to have dinner with. I would probably choose Sophia Bush, she is such a beautiful and inspiring person and I love her outlook on life. It would be awesome to have a chance to just chat with her. Of course I can’t leave out the fictional character I would love to meet, Blair Waldorf, because my life motto is What would Blair Waldorf do? And let’s be honest she’s a bad ass and you’d be crazy to not want to have dinner with the original Queen B.

4. What is your favorite thing about blogging?

There a lot of things about blogging that I really love. I think my absolute favorite thing though is the opportunity it gives me to meet other amazing bloggers. It helps connect you with people that have similar personalities and interest as you. It gives you the opportunity to have great conversations with others whom you would have never met without it. I love how it brings everyone together and forms a pretty incredible community.

5. What does your blog name mean and how did you come up with it?

Well if you have been following from the start then you know my name has just recently changed after I decided to take a pretty large change in my life. I chose this name because I wanted something to symbolize not only my love for the chicer things in life but something that didn’t hold me down to only blogging on certain topics. Thus Simply the Chic Life was born.

6. If you could give your past self one piece of advice, what would it be?

I would tell my high school self to have a little more fun, be a little more crazy. I have always been someone who acted above my age, looking back to high school there are a lot of things I wish I would have just allowed myself to let loose and do. I know some of the best memories from high school that I have are from some of my crazier, more care-free nights, and I wish I would have allowed myself more opportunities like that.

7. What is your favorite quote?

“Every saint has a past, every sinner has a future.” -Oscar Wilde

I love this quote because it shows that no matter who you are and what you have done in life there is always a future for you, always a chance to become the person you would like to be.

8. Who is you favorite user on Instagram?

I stumbled on a girl named Emma Hastings’ Instagram page a few months ago and I love all of her posts. Her outfits are always so on point and the fact that she is a woman my age and is out working hard and achieving her dreams is so inspiring to me. Thats my favorite Instagramers to find, the random ones that help inspire you. You can check her page out here.

9. What is your favorite season and why?

Just like with anything else I can not pick only one favorite. Summer and Fall will always be tied for the best in my eyes. I love Summer because of the sun and the carefree vibes it gives off. I love Fall because it is such a cozy time and I am obsessed with pretty much everything that starts popping up in the Fall (PSL, apple cider, Halloween, scary movies, pumpkin scented/flavored everything, need I say more?).

10.Name a moment when you can remember thinking how extremely happy you were. (ex: one of the times I can remember thinking how extremely happy I was, was the moment I drove under the Walt Disney World entrance sign for the very first time.)

One of the first nights that Josh and I moved into our home together I remember laying on our mattress on the floor with no cable and absolutely nothing in the house. We still found a way to make that evening fun and I remember us laughing for hours together. When we went to bed that night I remember feeling just pure bliss, that this was happiness, and that I was so blessed to have found someone to make me that incredibly happy. It is one of those moments I will be forever thankful for and will never forget.

11. Do you prefer fruity candies or chocolate?

This changes depending on my mood. I will almost always choose fruity candies but there are some evenings where the only thing that will do is a bunch of dark chocolate.

Now here are my questions for the nominees:

1. What made you begin blogging?

2. Who is your biggest inspiration in life?

3. If someone told you to pick a dream of yours that you would be able to go out and achieve today, what would it be?

4. What is a hobby you have?

5. Who is your favorite author?

6. What is your favorite show to watch?

7. Where is the one place you are determined to visit someday?

8. Name your favorite childhood memory.

9. Who is your all time favorite social media person? (They can be a blogger, Instagram user, Twitter user, etc.)

10. What is your favorite food?

11. What is your favorite beauty product at the moment?

I hope you all enjoyed and have as much fun with your post as I did mine!

Easter Weekend Fun

Ahh the day after Easter hangover. I don’t mean an alcohol hangover, I am talking about a “holy crap I ate way to much chocolate and probably gained 50 pounds” hangover. Good thing I started my day with a quick leg session at the gym(; I hope everyone’s holiday weekend was as good as ours! The weather here was mostly perfect and we got to spend a lot of time with family.

Thursday was a little crappy and rainy so I stuck with boyfriend jeans and a comfy top with my converse.

Later that evening I went to visit my cousin and her little boy. I haven’t been out to see them in a while and it was really great to get to catch up. I was blown away by how grown up he already acts for a 14 month old.

Saturday Josh and I made the horrible mistake of going to town, not once, but twice, to get some more things for Easter and I swear I almost had a break down inside Kroger. Nothing at all was going how we planned and to top it off town was so insanely busy you couldn’t even take 5 seconds to just think. Luckily we got home before it got too late and spent the rest of the night just relaxing. Another plus for the day? I felt super festive in my pastels that I wore.

(Josh asked if I was trying to be an easter egg, but we’ll ignore that)

Sunday morning started off great absolutely terrible. I felt sick when I got up(probably a little too much wine the night before but we will just call it a stomach bug) so I went back to bed for a little bit. Somehow I managed to sleep through my alarm and the 12 times that my snooze went off so I ended up waking up about 2 hours before we had to  be at my parents. I ran around the house trying to hurry and make the cheese ball and Rice Krispy dessert that I was supposed to bring all while trying to get myself ready. Of course Josh was helping make the food, but I think he snacked on it more than he helped actually make it. A little tip, don’t use self tanner when you are in a hurry. I wore a teal dress and was determined to have at least a slight tan with it so I took about .25 seconds to put on my self tanner and to say it turned out bad would be an understatement. I have orange streaks all over me now and it does not look good. All ended up good though, we made it to my parents only 15 minutes late with both the cheese ball and dessert looking edible. We had a great visit before heading to Josh’s parents for a little while. Then it was home for the night where we could recover from our food comas and relax before the Monday craziness.

The cheese ball was so simple. All you need is one 8 oz package of cream cheese, one package of corned beef, a splash of worcestershire sauce, a little green onion, and some shredded cheese. Mix it all up in a bowl and then let it refrigerate for a little while (about 30 minutes) then take it out and shape it however you’d like, cover it with some more cheese, and then throw some parsley at the top to form a carrot!

The Rice Krispy treats we made were a little less simple. It probably would have helped if we had an egg shaped cookie cutter but since we didn’t we had to shape them all by hand, which as you can see did not turn out that well. They still tasted super yummy and looked pretty though so I can’t complain! If you are interested I found the recipe on Pinterest!

All in all the weekend turned out to be a good one and I am sad that it is over. Hope everyone has a great holiday-hangover day!

March Favorites

Happy April 1st! April is one of my favorite months for several reasons(warmer weather, my birthday, end of classes) so I was not sad to say goodbye to March. I realized it has been an unacceptably long time since I have done a favorites post on products I loved all month so I decided to take this opportunity and do one for March!

Processed with Rookie

1) I have been extremely lazy with my self tanning here lately and this instant bronzer from Victoria’s Secret is a life saver.

2) I found this tumbler at Starbucks a few weeks ago and I’m obsessed with it. It’s perfect for sipping detox water but you can also put hot drinks in it!

3) The Nudes palette from Maybelline is a recent love of mine. The colors are beautiful and I have been loving a bronzed neutral all month.

4) The Rimmel Sun Shimmer bronzer has been a favorite of mine for a while now, it is perfect for adding some glow.

5) I love Maybelline lipsticks, as far as drug store goes I believe they are the absolute best, and the shade Born With It has been my go to. It’s a light pink with a little shimmer that makes a nice classy, natural, look.

6) When I am wanting a little bit more pop I top the lipstick with this NYX Butter Gloss in Apple Strudel, it adds a hint of color for the perfect combination.

7) The Mac liquid liner is a must. The black is gorgeous and drys matte, and I really just love everything about it.

8) Wet N Wild has some great blushes, my favorite this month has been in the color Wine.

9) My obsession with Gillian Flynn continues with her book “Sharp Objects”. Everything by her is amazing, if you’re looking for some books to add to your summer reading list check her out!

10) I got this Lorac mascara as a sample a while back and when I first receive it I hated it. After running out of my go-to I decided to give this one another shot and it turns out I absolutely love it! It leaves your lashes looking long and gorgeous!

11) Ah the Mac eye primer, I believe this will be a favorite until I am 70. My go-to color is Bare Study.

Hopefully this was helpful if you are searching for some new items to love! I plan to keep up on these and post one every month!

* Whats a favorites post without Chipotle and Starbucks green tea? (;

Spring Break

Thank the lord it is finally Spring break, I have needed this week oh so badly. Other than the fact that I picked up a billion and one shifts this week I plan on spending my days off binge watching series on Netflix and eating as many good meals as possible. I should also do some Spring organizing, but I am not holding my breathe on that one.

Over the weekend one of my good friends came to town and after not seeing her for almost 3 years I met up with her and her husband for dinner and then they ended up back at our place for a night of cards and drinking. It was a great time and really great getting to catch up on everything, but my hangover at work the next day, not so great.

I am praying that maybe some day all this snow will melt and it will be time to wear shorts and maxi dresses again, but until then I will continue on with cozy sweaters and jeans. I found an amazing little sweater jacket at TJMaxx for only $19 so of course I wore it the first chance I could get. I paired it up with my dark skinnies and black boots for comfortable outfit that was appropriate for dinner!

Yesterday was the only day this week that I had absolutely 100% nothing to do, so of course I spent the entire day in bed. I literally did not move until Josh got home, and it was amazing. Great way to start a break right? Josh convinced me that I should probably get up and at least cook a little something so we didn’t starve so I found a recipe I have been dying to try and oh. my. goodness. it was heaven.

Processed with Rookie

I can’t say enough how simple this was to make. I pan cooked two chicken breasts and then shredded them. Then I cooked the penne noodles like usual, after they were finished I mixed in a light Alfredo sauce and the shredded chicken. Then you just spread half in a 9×13 baking dish, layer it with shredded mozzarella, add the rest of the noodle mix and then top it with the rest of the cheese. You can honestly add as much or as little cheese as you want, it is totally up to you! Bake it for about 20 minutes, serve it with some parsley on top and you are good to go. So easy. So good! Now it is time to down my third cup of coffee for the morning and head to work!

Spring Favorites

To be completely honest life has been b.o.r.i.n.g here lately. The weather has been miserably cold causing everyone is either sick or grumpy and all anyone wants to do is lay at home under 10 blankets watching movies. That has been life for the past 3 weeks now. Real blog worthy right?  So as I spend another morning curled up in blankets refusing to leave bed I figured why not at least dream about the warm weather, hence why a spring favorites is coming so soon. WARNING: may cause serious cravings for sun and packing your bags for California.
Spring Favorites
1. I can not stress enough how much I love rompers, they are easy to throw on and look adorable! These will be a staple in my spring/summer wardrobe!
2. Philosophy body washes are little bundles or happiness when the seasons change. I always know it is truly spring when I start using my raspberry sorbet scent.
3. I really loved these wool floppy hats for Fall and I think they will be a great accessory for Spring as well!
4. Statement necklaces are great any time of the year, but I really love all the fun colors for the Spring!
5. I didn’t jump on the crop top craze last year, but I am a full believer that paired with the right thing I will be loving them this year. They can look really nice and chic when paired well.
6. Skater skirts. I am obsessed. They look great with the crops tops, or really any top at that.
7. Classic black heels are a staple. I dream of the Christian Louboutins that are pictured.
8. Comfy Spring days call for boyfriend jeans. You can make them as dressed up or casual as you want, and they are seriously so comfortable.
9. Speaking of comfy, I am loving the Céline t-shirts I have been seeing every where! They would look great casually paired with the boyfriend jeans or dressed up with the skater skirt.
10. Gladiator sandels will always be a staple in my book, but this year I really love the ballerina looking heels. I think they will be adorable with the right outfits!
11. One of the best things about Spring is the lip colors! I love all the bright pinks that always start popping up this time of the year!
12. I listed my dream shoes so of course I had to list my dream bag. I am determined to own this Céline purse by the Summer!
One thing that is not photoed that I really love is the Lauren Conrad Cinderella collection at Kohl’s. I always love when her new collections come out, and this one has been one of my favorites! The tulle skirts are amazing and I may be purchasing one of the dresses for Easter(;
I hope everyone starts their day with wonderful warm thoughts now, and I won’t blame you if you decide to run off to sunny skies until it get warm again!

A Little Update

I have finally decided on a new blog name!! So duuhh duhhh duhhh, welcome to The Chic Life! It took me a while to decide on a name, I didn’t want something that was too specific to any certain blogging item but I didn’t want something to broad either. Finally this little beauty of a name popped into my mind and I love it! I want to incorporate a lot more fashion/beauty related posts into my blog along with still doing lifestyle post so I figured the name was a perfect match! My new domain is! I hope you guys love the name as much as I do!

Now onto my week! Not much going on here, a lot has turned around for the better and life is definitely looking up! I am meeting with an advisor to get an official major switch done on Tuesday so I am really excited about that, also I am looking into finding another job, I want something in retail unfortunately my town doesn’t have many options so we will see! School has been going so much better now that I have decided to change my major, I feel so much more excited about my classes and it’s really helping me focus. This week was filled with exams and cold weather so I dressed pretty casual and comfortable.

 Processed with Rookie

Big cozy flannels are a must for casual, chilly, days!

If you want to go with a comfortable look that doesn’t call for leggings or sweats I recommend boyfriend jeans! They fit loosely so they are comfortable and you can pair them up to make them as chic as you want!

Of course mine and Josh’s week would not be complete without some Chipotle for you to drool over and some motivation(;

Major Change

I have been hopelessly uninterested with school, it started last semester and I thought I could get through it, but I can’t. I at first worried it was school in general that wasn’t for me, then one day in the middle of Chemistry it dawned on me that I had lost pretty much all interest in my major. Sure I would like being a dietitian, but it’s not my dream dream job, and I really hate science based classes. Life is way to short to not enjoy what you are doing, so I decided I wanted to switch majors. I immediately thought back to when I was younger and obsessed with the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”, I would spends days dreaming about working in a world like that, filled with high fashion every single day. Of course at that age I thought the only career in fashion was to be either a model, a designer, or at a major magazine, all of which I knew I would never do. I did some research and finally found my dream career. So I am switching majors to Retail Merchandising and Fashion Product Management and minoring in Marketing. Basically I will get to work the business side of the fashion industry, and I could not be more excited. I can’t start the program until the Fall so I have to stick with the classes I am in right now until the end of the semester, but after that I will be on my way to my dream career. The classes sound amazing and there are a ton of options with it, I honestly feel relief that I haven’t felt for a long time now that I have made this decision.

Of course I am sure you are thinking “the name of your blog is The Preppy Dietitian?” which means I am going to be changing my blog name, possibly even domains, I’m not really sure yet. I don’t know what I want to change it to just yet, I have a couple ideas in mind and as soon as I decide for sure I will post on here to let you know! I hope everyone has a great weekend! XO

Friday Thoughts

It’s easy to get caught up in life and lose sight of your goals, especially if you lead a busy lifestyle. You get lost in the motions of every day and suddenly it’s three months down the road and you have achieved nothing you wanted to. I stumbled across a blog of a woman around my age who packed up and moved her life to New York City to achieve her dreams, something I admire so much. I can’t imagine how challenging it would be to do that at such a young age, and I admire how someone is able to so passionately chase after the dreams they believe in. It inspired me to stay on track with my goals and work my ass off to get to where I want to be. I would be lying if I said I haven’t been slacking a lot here lately with several different things, I lost sight of my goals, got lazy with my attitude and looks, and pretty much gave up on everything I believed in and wanted. I couldn’t be more thankful to find the inspiration I was needing to get back on track with my life, I am hoping to see a lot of my dreams being accomplished within this year.

So I guess the whole point of this post is for me to let you know to never give up on your dreams, go out and chase after what you want. It may be easier to give up and I know that when life gets you down it’s hard to stay focused on the things you really want, but you have to make sure you keep yourself and your goals in mind. Have a great weekend loves!
